I can remember as a very young girl watching in amazement as both my maternal and paternal grandmothers cooked.
Every meal was prepared with love and care. No microwave dinners, no peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Each meal was cooked and prepared from scratch.
From red eyed gravy to cubed steak with gravy. Each meal was filling and full of history. Meals passed on from one generation to another.
What an amazing heritage I have been blessed with. Blessed with the ability to prepare loving meals passed down from generations!
“Though we are overwhelmed by our own sins, you forgave them all.” Psalm 65:3
When I was a young girl I attended church regularly. I had even gotten “saved.” So I knew about Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit. I had memorized scripture, but I did not have a relationship with God.
Later, I had barely turned 25 years old and my life had become a disaster. I was overwhelmed by my own sins and decisions. I had reached the end of trying to do things “my way.”
I remember vividly the moment I truly surrendered my life and soul to Jesus Christ. He covered me with His love, wrapped me in His mercy and forgiveness and delivered me from self destruction. Now, I don’t just know about Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit I have a relationship with them.
Since that amazing day there have been many blessings in my life. There have been many trials and tears. Unfortunately, there have also been numerous times I have failed and grieved God’s Spirit, but never once did He leave or forsake me.
If you are struggling and feel overwhelmed call out to the one who loves you. Call out to the one who is waiting to hear you call His name. Call out to Jesus. He is waiting for you.
“I cry out to the Lord; I plead for the Lord’s mercy, I pour out my complaints before Him and tell Him all my troubles, when I am overwhelmed you alone know the way I should turn.” Psalm 142: 1-3
What are the most important things needed to live a good life?
For me it is the simple inexpensive things needed to have a truly good life:
1. Faith in God.
2. Hope for tomorrow.
3. Love for others.
Faith in God is essential for me because I can’t imagine trying to navigate through life making all the decisions based on my own wisdom. I have faith after years of trusting and seeing His guidance and goodness in my life.
Hope for tomorrow. Depression is the definition of hopelessness. I swam in the waters of depression and know the hollow hell it causes in one’s mind. Hope through faith in God rescued me from those dark drowning waters.
Love for others. For years I believed having others love me was the key to happiness. I now realize loving others with healthy boundaries brings great peace and satisfaction in life.
A good life for me is living in peace with my God, myself and others.
