My brother DeWayne and I often spent the night with my Nannie Jackson in her home at Route 1 Jefferson.

The bedtime ritual was we all three climbed into her double bed. We each prayed silently.

When we had finished our prayers each one of us would individual say out loud “Amen” when we were done praying.

None of us would talk until everyone had said “Amen.”Then, my Nannie Jackson would always say, “If you need me, call me.”

I never realized how blessed I was until I became a Nannie. Now, I tell my grandbabies “if you need me, call me.”

If you have any age on you at all, you know who Bill Gaither and the Gaither Vocal Band are.

If you attended church anytime between 1930 and 1970 you will know and recognize the lyrics of this song. We sang it often, back before praise and worship music became the thing.

In the harvest field now ripened

There’s a work for all to do

Hark! the Master’s voice is calling

    To the harvest calling you

Does the place you’re called to labor

Seem so small and little known?

It is great if a God is in it

For He’ll not forsake His own

Little is much when God is in it!

Labor not for wealth or fame

There’s a crown, and you can win it

If you go in Jesus’ name

And when the conflict has ended

And our race on earth is run

He will say, if you’ve been faithful

    “Welcome home, My child—well done!”

Little is much when God is in it!

Labor not for wealth or fame

There’s a crown, and you can win it

    If you go…

    If you go…

If you go in Jesus’ name

Do you remember growing up when you couldn’t wait to go to your Granny or Nannie’s so you could play with your cousins?

Do you remember begging your mama “please can cousin so and so come home with us?”

Can you remember football games in the front yard between cousins and neighbors?

Can you remember your dad having softball games with his cousins, brothers and neighbors?

Do you remember family reunions where more than a handful showed up?

Family reunions with pickin and singing took place?

    I do.

I remember and my heartbreaks because technology and politics has robbed so many people of what truly matters.

Punishment inflicted or retribution exacted for an injury or wrong.

Have you ever wanted to inflict hurt on someone because of the pain and hurt they had caused you?

Have you ever wanted someone to feel the same hurt or humiliation you felt?

    I have.

I have never known how to deal with rejection, being used or spiteful attacks. It has always been one of my greatest weaknesses.

    God’s word tells us:

19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.  Romans 12

Why should we leave vengeance in God’s hand?

    1. Because His love is unconditional.  He doesn’t just love you, He also loves the one who has offended you.
    2. He will not just do what is best for you, but he will do what will bring healing and restoration to all.
    3. He is not just a God of today. He is the God of yesterday, today and tomorrow–He and He alone knows what is best for everyone involved.

    Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

        and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him,

and he will make your paths straight.

Never trust in your own knowledge, always trust in the Lord.

I witnessed another miraculous intervention from God today.

    You notice I said “another.”

I have been blessed to have seen His Hand move mightly in many situations.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6,7.

So many times doubt and fear causes us to wonder, “Will God help me?” Not because we don’t think God is able, but because we don’t feel worthy of his help.

We doubt HIS faithfulness, because of our own failures.

God’s faithfulness is not based on your failures.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Does this mean we can do whatever we want as long as we believe in Jesus? NO!

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.” Galatians 6:7

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

Remember the woman caught in adultery?

Remember the woman at the well who had five husbands and was living with a man who was not her husband?

Remember the thief hanging on the cross beside Jesus?

    Now, think.

How much does God love you?

My brother was talented, handsome, charming, funny, and easy to love.

I was the oldest, he was the younger sibling.

He went into the Air Force after he graduated from high school. When he came out of the Air Force, he was never the same.

Drugs had become a part of his life.

Drugs or rather the desire for drugs controlled him. He did things we never ever thought he would do. He had become a different person.

He would leave and stay gone for months and never contact my parents or me. It was pure tormental hell for us never knowing if he was dead or alive.

    Pray. We did.

    Cry. We did.

    Anger. We felt it.

    Families go through so much.

    Pray for one another!

    Galatians 6:2

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
